Professional Course FAQs

No, our courses do not include a state license. They are designed to help you develop professional skills and hands-on experience.

To work legally in California, you must complete a state-approved licensing program and pass the required exam.

To work as a colorist, you can obtain either a Cosmetology or Barbering license in California. Both allow you to perform hair coloring services, although Cosmetology covers a broader range of beauty services.

The student kit includes all the materials needed for the first part of the course.

For advanced classes (5–12), students will need an additional professional color kit, available at the academy.

We recommend visiting the official website of the California Board of Cosmetology and Barbering to find accredited schools that offer training for obtaining a cosmetology license. There, you can get the information and requirements set by the state for obtaining a license in California. The state offers full-time or part-time training programs and apprenticeship systems. You should contact them for more information and guidance on the nearest school to your residence.

You will learn how to apply color in different hair styles and coloring techniques, basic color application including dyes and lighteners.

Advanced techniques such as Balayage, ombré, highlights, baby lights, perfect blondes, and fantasy colors will also be covered. All techniques are practiced on mannequins an real models.

Most practice is done on professional mannequins to help you develop technique and precision.

In more advanced classes, students may choose to bring a live model to enhance their experience, but it is not required.
