Professional Course FAQs

No, the professional haircutting techniques course (long and short) that we offer at AVL Academy is a 12-week course where you learn basic and advanced professional techniques applied to cutting, new trends, services, and handling professional salon products. If you want to obtain a Cosmetology license, you need to contact state-accredited schools that offer training for obtaining a license in California or any state of your preference. Remember that these schools only train you and ensure you meet the state requirements for obtaining your license. Once your training is complete, you go to state facilities to take a final exam, and upon passing, you receive your license.

There is no specific professional haircutting license in California. It was proposed as a project, but it is not currently approved for teaching in accredited schools. To obtain a professional license through the state of California that allows you to work in a salon and/or start your own business offering haircut services, you must obtain a Cosmetology license. For this, you should go to schools accredited by the California Board of Cosmetology and Barbering, which will train you with the requirements needed to obtain your license through the state. Remember that the training program must be studied in the same state where you want to obtain the license. We are an experimental school where you can start in the world of haircutting. Our course includes 20% theory and 80% practical classes on mannequins, applying basic and advanced techniques, which help you learn how to perform long and short haircut services in trend and how to work with professional products used in the world of haircutting. At AVL Academy, we give you the opportunity to experience the world of haircutting and other beauty areas before obtaining your license or to refine your techniques once you have your cosmetology license.

In this course, you learn to cut short hair. We offer several classes focused on techniques applied to short hair, and we also use a texturizing razor for both long and short hair, always on mannequins. You will also use professional cutting machines. If you want to specialize in men’s haircuts or short haircuts and use a barber razor, we recommend that you additionally enroll in the barbering techniques course we offer at AVL Academy.

Yes, we have classes focused on this type of technique, where you will use professional cutting machines and techniques for fades such as high, medium, and low fade.

The student kit includes a long hair mannequin, a set of cutting combs, a set of professional salon brushes, a set of professional cutting scissors, a cutting cape, an apron, a continuous spray bottle, and much more. The cutting machines are included in the new version of Phase I and II of the long and short haircut courses.

In a traditional or apprenticeship school that offers training for obtaining a license, you start by learning theory in more depth applied to Cosmetology, learn state regulations, how to apply them when working with a real person, and only receive basic cutting practices and basic practices in other areas covered by cosmetology. The state does not focus on the result of the cut but on ensuring you apply prevention, sanitization, and do not cause irreparable damage to the person you are working with or providing a service to. All our courses are designed for people WITHOUT EXPERIENCE and for those who already have experience and wish to improve their techniques and gain greater knowledge in the beauty area of preference, in this case, long and short haircuts. With our training, you learn 20% theory and 80% practical classes on mannequins, applying basic and advanced techniques that help you learn how to perform trendy long and short haircut services and how to work with professional products used in a professional beauty salon. At AVL Academy, we give you the opportunity to experience the world of haircutting before obtaining your license or to refine your techniques once you have your license. This is our difference as a technique-focused school in the beauty world.
